Family Relations

Our Family Relations team partners with families to build resilience, improve communication, and create nurturing environments where every child can thrive. We understand that a strong family foundation is essential for a child’s well-being and development. Embracing the idea that it takes a village to raise a child, we offer both physical and emotional support, helping families navigate challenges and grow stronger together.

We Empower families through…

House Visits

House visits form the backbone of our Family Relations pillar. Recognizing the crucial role of family in a child’s life, we work closely with families to better serve their needs and strengthen community support.

Quarterly house visits allow us to tailor our programs, ensuring we address each family's unique circumstances while building lasting, supportive relationships.

Family Programmes

Cahaya’s philosophy towards community development is to create a safe and conducive environment for our children, which our families/parents play an important role in. We engage our families on a regular basis to understand their needs and more importantly, their strengths and aspirations. Till date we have engaged over 80 families across Kebun Baru, Canberra and Clementi. We are committed to be our families’ trusted partners.

  • English for Adults is a foundational language program aimed at enhancing the English skills and confidence of non-English-speaking parents for better integration into Singapore. Over 12 weeks, learners connected with each other and built a supportive community through their education.

  • The Cahaya SmartSavers program aimed to empower our families with enhanced financial literacy. In collaboration with private donors, we established a savings scheme that encouraged families to save more by matching their savings with contributions from our donors. Beyond the savings initiative, our volunteers regularly engaged the families to educate them on the importance of budgeting and tracking their expenses.

  • Ya, It's Cahaya! is centred around building stronger parent-child relationships.

Through the programme, families get to participate in exciting family-friendly activities on a monthly basis. Beyond spending the day together, the activities are also designed to highlight important family strengths, such as communication and appreciation, that will help foster a stronger family unit.

Livelihood Support

  • In collaboration with EngineeringGood, we provided laptops to students, ensuring they could continue their education and stay connected with teachers and peers during the shift to home-based learning.

  • With the help of generous donors, distribution of rice and groceries to families in our community, helping to alleviate some of the burdens brought on by the crisis. By ensuring that families had access to essential food items, we aimed to provide a sense of stability and comfort during a time of uncertainty.

  • Cahaya’s case management focuses on assessing and identifying unique challenges faced by families, coordinating resources and connecting them either essential services provided by our partner agencies and social workers.

The COVID-19 pandemic brought unprecedented challenges, particularly for vulnerable children and their families. In response, our team swiftly mobilized to provide essential support and assistance during these difficult times.
